Ram Singh Charlie Movie Review

Ram Singh Charlie Movie Review :  A Lovely Little Film About A Family Of Circus Artistes

Ram Singh Charlie Movie Poster
Ram Singh Charlie Movie Poster

Ram Singh Charlie is a 2020 Bollywood Drama film, directer is Nitin Kakkar, and writter are Kakkar and Sharib Hashmi. the Star cast are Divya Dutta,Akarsh Khurana,Kumud Mishra,Farrukh Seyer,Salima Raza,Rohit Rokhade. But wants to be many things. The film is a celebration of the artist. Ram might be a circus entertainer but that doesn’t diminish his talent or the labor he puts into making people laugh. When people call Ram a joker, he protests. Because Charlie Chaplin was so much more. Ram does his job with unfailing sincerity and even tells his son, ‘Asli artist sab ke liye nahi, apne liye perform karta hai.’

The film is also a lament for a lost way of life. The circus isn’t just a job. It’s a family. When it shuts, all the members from the owner to Ram to the clowns – lose their moorings. They find it impossible to fit into an indifferent world where their talent is disregarded. At one point, Ram tries to make money by donning a giant chicken costume. He also becomes a rickshaw puller, racing through crowded streets while his head swirls with images of his beloved circus.

The story is set in Kolkata. The city has been evocatively captured by DOPs Subranshu Das and Madhav Salunkhe. We see the urban sprawl as Ram sees it – expansive, uncaring, brutal. You might find echoes here of Bimal Roy’s 1953 classic Do Bigha Zamin, in which a poor farmer, played by the brilliant Balraj Sahni, tries to salvage his ancestral land and his family by becoming a rickshaw puller. The circus scenes might remind you of Raj Kapoor’s Mera Naam Joker. Ram Singh Charlie is also steeped in nostalgia for the simpler joys of the circus, which has now been replaced technology and a hurried pace of life.the film would be released on 28 August 2020.

Critic's Rating : 3.0/5

Ramsingh Charlie Review :

Kumud Mishra has the entire film to himself. His delicate methods are matched to perfection by Divya Dutta The circus comes and goes but life goes on: that was the takeaway from G. Aravindan's 1978 Malayalam classic Thampu. Nitin Kakkar's Ramsingh Charlie may not say as much but it employs a similar metaphor to highlight the struggles of an out-of-work circus performer.

Not that Ramsingh Charlie is anywhere near the league of Aravindan's timeless marvel of cinematic purity and documentary authenticity. But the Kumud Mishra-Divya Dutta starrer, streaming on SonyLIV, is a wonderfully unconventional Hindi film in its own right.

The supporting cast contributes handsomely. Akarsh Khurana, playing the hard-nosed businessman who kills the circus in one fell swoop, is terrific. Salima Raza as the empathetic Masterji, Farrukh Seyer as the friend the male protagonist makes in the city and Surendra Rajan as the violin player are all in their elements.

Ramsingh Charlie is mounted on a modest scale but it anything but it is small. It has layers that run deep and its sweep is excitingly expansive.

Sadak 2 Movie Review :

Her entire family – comprising the maasi-turned-step-mother Nandini Maa (Priyanka Bose) and father Yogesh (Jisshu Sengupta) – is under the spell of ‘dhongi sadhu’ Gyaan Prakash (Makarand Deshpande) but Aarya, all of 20, knows better. Utterly convinced that her beloved mother died owing to an elaborate plan hatched by Gyaan Prakash and that ‘disease’ Nandini, Aarya launches an online campaign called ‘India Fights Fake Gurus’. Her motivation is to reveal the truth behind these supposed messengers of God and debunk the myth and mystery surrounding them. While treading along this mission, Aarya falls in love with a former troll – a very good-looking musician with issues of his own, Vishal (Aditya Roy Kapur). Together, they embark on a pilgrimage to fulfil Aarya’s maa-ka-aakhri-sapna of visiting Kailash on her 21st birthday.

However, there is a small hurdle – the booking agent/ co-owner of Pooja Travels and Tours (that guarantees safety and security 24*7) is now dead and her taxi driver husband Ravi’s (Sanjay Dutt) only purpose in life is to reunite with her in Heaven. After much cajoling and persuasion, the heartbroken cabbie reluctantly says yes. Soon after, they find solace in each other and a unique friendship blossoms that is a win-win for both – Aarya derives strength and hope from the lonely man and Ravi seeks a new purpose in life through this young girl driven to achieve what she is set out to do.

Back in the 90s, when ‘Sadak’, starring Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt, hit the theatres, it was such a rage among the audience; for two reasons: the incredible love ballads and its engaging plotline. 20 years on, Mahesh Bhatt conjures up a script to take that story on the road again.

It is rather disappointing to see a filmmaker of Mahesh Bhatt’s stature to make a comeback as a director with ‘Sadak 2’. No offense… but why this, Bhatt saab?
In a nutshell, ‘Sadak 2’, for everyone involved with this project, should have been a ‘road not taken’. And for those who are planning on watching this purely for sentimental reasons, be forewarned: This Sadak leads nowhere; turn back. Jai Guru ji!

Class Of '83 Movie Review

Class Of '83 Movie Review : Bobby Deol Springs A Surprise But Netflix Film Is A Mixed Bag

Class Of '83 Film Poster
Class Of  '83 Film Poster

Class of '83 is an 2020 Bollywood drama film producer is Red Chillies Entertainment and directer is Atul Sabharwal for Netflix. The film is based on the book "The Class of 83" by Hussain Zaidi and tells the story of a hero policeman shunted to a punishment posting as Dean Vijay Singh (Bobby Deol) of the police academy.Class of '83 is third Netflix collaboration with Red Chillies Entertainment after the original series Bard of Blood and Betaal. The film will premiere on 21 August 2020 on Netflix.

Critic's Rating : 2.5/5

Class Of '83 Movie Review :

Despite Bobby Deol's unfussy impersonation of a stolid, righteous policeman, the film is more tattle than tension, more acrimony than action.

A cops-and-gangsters thriller produced by Red Chillies Entertainment with a brooding Bobby Deol in the lead, Class of '83 is a mixed bag. The film swings between two extremes - the studied cynicism of seasoned men in uniform and the feigned insouciance of cadets trying to fit in. At both ends are sweeping cliches.

The solemnity of the seniors lends some strength to the Netflix film but the inconstancy of the rookies dilutes the drama on the mean streets and off the coast of a mid-1980s Mumbai. It is a veritable crowd out there. Five novices are thrown in at the deep end. Neither the characters nor the fresh-faced actors playing them find a way out. The palpably worn-out devices at the disposal of director Atul Sabharwal (Aurangzeb) are of no help.

The film is done in a bit by the all-knowing, logically inconsistent narration by a key character. An abrupt twist hastens the climax and changes the perspective of the narrator's voice. While this sleight just about passes muster, the raconteur offering the audience insider snatches of a crucial tete-a-tete he wasn't personally involved in does not stand to reason.

The conversation in question takes place between the upright dean and a close friend in the police force, DCP Raghav Desai (Joy Sengupta), who believes in playing strictly by the book. The former broaches the need to catch the gangsters unawares by bending the rules. On the latter's reaction to the dean's suggestion rests the destiny of the five new recruits about to be thrown into the deep end.

The film tries hard to create an aura of mystery and invincibility around Dean Vijay Singh. It succeeds only partially. The brooding officer is hounded by memories of a botched operation against a mafia kingpin and the death of his wife Sudha (Geetika Tyagi). The two incidents occur simultaneously and scar him for life. As he seeks redemption, the five lads he takes under his wing provide a glimmer of hope.Bobby Deol and the technicians stays focused on the job but Class of '83 lets its attention wander. It never fully hits its stride as a result.

Mee Raqsam Movie Review: Baba Azmi's Film Will Dance Its Way Into Your Heart

Mee Raqsam Film Poster
Mee Raqsam Film Poster

Mee Raqsam is a 2020 Bollywood drama film directer And Producer is Baba Azmi . The film stars Naseeruddin Shah,Danish Husain,Rakesh Chaturvedi Om,Aditi Subedi in the main lead roles.Mee Raqsam is based on Shabana Azmi's relationship with her father and writer Kaifi Azmi.

Mee Raqsam, a film that revolves around a father-daughter relationship, is set to premiere on ZEE 5 on August 21. Directed by cinematographer-turned-director Baba Azmi, the film is based on his sister Shabana Azmi's relationship with their father Kaifi Azmi.

The poster and release date of Mee Raqsam were shared by the makers on Tuesday. The story will see Danish Husain’s Salim inspiring and motivating his daughter Mariam (Aditi Subedi) to pursue her dream of becoming a dancer against all odds. Naseeruddin Shah will be seen playing the role of a community leader.

Talking about Mee Raqsam, Naseeruddin Shah said in a statement, “The simplicity of the film will grapple the audience in absolute awe. Mee Raqsam is made with a lot of love and purity. It beautifully portrays the father-daughter relationship. It is about a daughter’s aspiration and her father supporting her dreams and choices irrespective of what the society says. It shows the power of this beautiful bond.”

Baba Azmi, on the other hand, said that Mee Raqsam is an ode to his late father and write Kaifi Azmi. He said, "Many years ago, my father Kaifi Azmi had asked me, 'Baba, is it possible for you to shoot a film in Mijwan?' We both smiled at each other because we both knew what a formidable task that would be. A village with no roads, no amenities, no infrastructure. But his question stuck with me. Now, many years later, I was able to do just that. It gives me immense pleasure to have made my directorial debut as a tribute to my father Kaifi Azmi."

Mee Raqsam will premiere on August 21 on ZEE5.

Critic's Rating : 4.0/5

Mee Raqsam Film Story :

It revolves around a young girl's aspiration to become a dancer, but coming from a small village like Mijwan, everyone questions her dreams and choices. It's only her father who trusts, supports and helps her in this journey of achieving her dream.

Mee Raqsam Movie Review :

The film belongs to Danish Hussain and Aditi Subedi, who play the two pivotal characters with empathy and subtlety Cinematographer Baba Azmi's debut as a producer and director, Mee Raqsam (I Dance) is a disarmingly simple, sensitive, heart-warming film that more than just tells a story. Couched in it is a fervent and urgent advocacy of India's culture of harmony and assimilation that is under increasing threat in a climate polluted by hatred, bigotry and political skullduggery.

A compact plot, a wonderful cast and refreshingly unpretentious storytelling are harnessed for a specific purpose. It is dedicated to the humanism of the late poet and lyricist Kaifi Azmi and filmed entirely in his native village of Mijwan in Azamgarh district.

The supporting cast is absolutely fabulous. As one of the faces of conservatism in the film, Shraddha Kaul isn't your average cantankerous aunt out to outshout everyone. The character, etched out in a nuanced fashion, makes her concern for Maryam and the family 'honour' feel absolutely believable without having to resort to the usual snickering and sneering that comes with the territory. Credit is due here as much to the writing as to the performance. The other supporting actors, irrespective of the screen time they individually have, aren't swamped out of the picture. Sudeepta Singh, Rakesh Chaturvedi Om, Kaustubh Shukla, Juhaina Ahsan and Shivangi Gautam are all allowed their moments, a couple of them appreciably more than the rest. Collectively, they give it their best shot.

Watch Mee Raqsam because it will dance its way into your heart if it's in the right place.

Khuda Haafiz Story :

The lives of newlyweds Nargis (Shivaleeka Oberoi) and Sameer Choudhary (Vidyut Jammwal) come crumbling down as economic slowdown hits India in 2008 and the couple’s now out of work. The duo applies for jobs in the Sultanate of Noman. But as fate would have it, Nargis is snatched away by some dangerous people in the foreign land. Sameer resolves to bring her home safe and sound. What has transpired?

Khuda Haafiz Review :

In the opening sequence, a coy Sameer asks Nargis if she had agreed to marry him because of family pressure and if she had a boyfriend that she still has unresolved feelings for. This Lucknow boy’s naivety appeals to Nargis. And before you know it, the duo enters into holy matrimony and is drunk in love within days of saying ‘Qubool Hai (I accept it)’ to one another. In a different setting, writers Faruk Kabir (also the director) and Zaheer Abass Qureshi portray the sudden crashing of the world economy and how India grapples under its shockwaves. Needless to say, the lead pair too faces the brunt and both lose their jobs within months of tying the knot.

Desperate, the couple applies for work to foreign countries like the Sultanate of Noman through a sketchy job placement agency in Lucknow. While Narigis’s work visa arrives, Sameer has to wait for five more days. But all’s not well in the Noman paradise as Nargis makes a panic phone call to her husband, claiming “nothing’s what it seemed to be” and that “she is being treated badly”. Something sinister is at play and Sameer knows it, and leaves home with the sole mission of bringing his wife back. Upon reaching, he is confronted with the harsh reality of his circumstances—Nargis is now in the clutches of the dark alleys of flesh trade. How is he going to save her, and most importantly, where is she?

Khuda Haafiz - literal meaning ‘May God be your Guardian’ - does not have the most innovative script on the planet but it still could have worked had it not been for the randomness in the second half and the outrageously sham Arabic accents. Watch it for Vidyut flexing his muscles in the most amusing way imaginable, peeps!

Gunjan Saxena : The Kargil Girl Film Story :

The film chronicles the incredible real life story, struggles and gender based discrimination faced by former Indian Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena (played by Janhvi Kapoor). Known as the ‘Kargil Girl’, Gunjan was honoured with the Shaurya Vir award for displaying exemplary courage during the Kargil war in 1999.

Gunjan Saxena : The Kargil Girl Movie Review :

Gender stereotypes are as old as the hills. While men are preordained to excel at something, women stepping into that territory continue to ruffle a few feathers. It's not uncommon for women to face blatant, casual or concealed sexism, no matter how accomplished. Female athletes are asked who their favourite male athlete is. Are women smart enough to analyse science fiction films or sports? If this is what we face today, Lucknow girl Gunjan Saxena shattered the glass ceiling in the 90s when she became an IAF pilot. She did it at a time when feminism wasn’t in vogue. It was only in 2016, that India saw its first ever women fighter pilots to be commissioned into the Indian Air Force. Women were not inducted in the fighter stream before. Flight Lieutenants Gunjan Saxena and Srividya Rajan paved the way for others to follow. In 1999, Gunjan, the former helicopter pilot at 24, became India's first woman combat aviator to fly Cheetah helicopters in the Kargil war zone. She was tasked with medical evacuations, supply drops, and mapping enemy position duties.

More than anything else, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is a deeply moving tale of a feminist father and his feisty daughter. It wages war against patriarchal mind-set and discrimination, and identifies it as a bigger threat to progress than the one we perhaps tackled in 1999.

Pareeksha - The Final Test Movie Review

Pareeksha - The Final Test Movie Review : A predictable take on the plight of have-nots in our society

Pareeksha – The Final Test is a 2020 Bollywood drama film directer is Prakash Jha. The film stars Adil Hussain, Priyanka Bose, Sanjay Suri in the main lead roles. The film takes on the education system in India and revolves around the story of an ordinary rickshaw driver in Bihar who aspires and dreams of providing a maximum possible quality education to his son by making arrangements for him to study at a private English medium school. The film is based on the real life story of IPS officer Abhayanand who teaches and coaches kids in a village in Bihar affecred by the Naxal to help them pass in the IIT-JEE exams.Initially intended for theatrical release, the film is scheduled to premiere through ZEE5 on 6 August 2020.

Critic's Rating : 2.5/5

Avg. Users' Rating : 3.6/5

Film Story :

Buchi Paswan (Adil Hussain) is a rickshaw puller who has big dreams for his only son Bulbul (Shubham Jha) and resolves to send the 10th grader to a private school for a better life. With others taking jibes at the kid owing to his family’s socio-economic standing, and bills raking up, how far will Buchi go to realise the dreams he has seen for his child?

Pareeksha - The Final Test Movie Review :

Set in Ranchi, Buchi is a rickshaw puller who toils hard all day long just to make ends meet and has no qualms about taking home books and stationaries that is thrown away by the rich kids of Sapphire International School. Because of the nature of his work, Buchi frequents the school and one day, musters the courage to ask the authorities if his son could transfer from his government school in the slums to the ‘elite one’ as he wants Bulbul to make something of himself. But, the mother -Radhika Rane (Priyanka Bose) - works at a steel factory and Buchi’s own income is meagre. To what lengths is this determined father willing to go to ensure his son gets what he didn’t – a proper education.
‘Pareeksha – The Final Test’ also toys with the politics of education but leaves it hanging mid-air. Unlike his previous outings on social issues, Prakash Jha’s latest offering seems like a desperate attempt to evoke empathy for the marginalised section of our society. But what it does end up doing is make one wonder why a filmmaker of his stature would cook up a hurried social drama with no layers – neither in the story nor in its characters.
The ‘final test’ results are out and it’s not looking good for the cast and crew.
